Presidential aspirant Kennedy Mong’are, says the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has no authority to halt political aspirants from vying for elective posts.

He defended governors, saying those who have looted public funds will be dealt with in court and EACC should keep off from investigating them.

“Nobody can stop any Kenyan from running for office. Not the DPP, not the EACC. The governors who have stolen and looted funds will be dealt with in courts. But EACC should not wake up now and start making a lot of noise that now they are going to stop governors from running for office,” said Mong’are.

The Nyamira senator further accused the EACC of being corrupt and unable to prosecute suspects.

“The biggest problem we have in this country is the EACC; it is full of corrupt officers who are in doubting with governors. For the last four years EACC has gone to court but they have never done any prosecutions,” added the lawmaker.

The presidential hopeful noted it was only the constitution which stipulated who should not vie for office.

“The constitution of Kenya is very clear on who should not run for office. One, if the person is bankrupt, two, if the person is insane and three, if the person has been convicted by the court of law,” Mong’are stated, Friday.
