According to a source quoted by Kenyans.co.ke, the aspirant rejected the bodyguards, saying he was protected by God.
Meanwhile, two other aspirants are yet to pick their security detail from the Police Headquarters.
Police have called upon the three to pick the officers, arguing they were putting their lives at risk considering they have already been cleared by IEBC to take a stab at the Presidency.
Police argued that the move is aimed at ensuring the candidates’ safety in the run up to the August 8 elections, in a bid to avoid any incidences that might lead to the cancellation of the polls.
Article 138(8)(b) of the Constitution states that “A presidential election shall be cancelled and a new election held if a candidate for the election as President or Deputy President dies on or before the scheduled election date.”
This comes a week after Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery rejected Raila Odinga’s demand of being allocated 50 bodyguards.
