Joseph Nyagah who is an aspiring presidential candidate has refuted allegations that he grabbed of land in Kanyakwar, Kisumu County.
The independent candidate stated that the land in question was obtained through legal means and is situated near the Kisumu International Airport
“I bought two little plots of land near the Kisumu International Airport when I was a member of the ODM Pentagon. My intention was to demonstrate that as a nationalist, one could property in any part of the country,” Nyagah stated as reported by the Daily Nation.
The National Land Commission (NLC) canceled hundreds of land owner’s title deeds via gazette on July 17 this year citing irregularities in the purchasing of the land and Nyagah was among them.
According to the notice, the plots are to be returned Kisumu county government following a review of the grants and complaints raised by the government.
“The commission has revoked all allocations done by Kisumu Municipal Council – the predecessor of the Kisumu county government – in Kanyakwar, Mamboleo and Kibos on the outskirts of Kisumu town, the scene of long drawn out land disputes dating back to 1967, but upheld all the allocations by the Commissioner of Lands.”
According to the NLC Chairman, many have lost their title deeds with only 82 reported to have retained theirs
