The August 8 general election should be postponed for two years to enable the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) prepare for a proper poll, a Presidential candidate has said.

According to Solomon Gichira, the electoral agency is not ready to conduct credible elections and should be given enough time to prepare for elections that will be accepted by all Kenyans.

“We are not sure if there is anything left to go wrong in the preparation of this year’s election preparation process because everything that has been done is wrong," Gichira said addressing the press on Tuesday in Nairobi.

The hopeful added: "In fact, the failure with which the IEBC is managing the preparations has no equivalent in Kenya’s electoral history."

He said within the two years a caretaker government should be put in place, formed by involving all political parties in the country.

Gichira further accused the Wafula Chebukati-led commission of manipulating the electoral process in favour of some pre-determined winners.

"The commission is acting unconstitutionally and in bad faith by stubbornly printing some ballot papers while battling suits that are challenging the same printing in court,"  he said.

The aspirant made headlines in May when he was charged with attempted suicide after he allegedly tried to jump off Anniversary Towers when IEBC rejected his nomination papers.
