Presidential candidates on Monday made a request to have the presidential ballot papers printing tender given to a local printing firm.
During the meeting that brought together all candidates, most of them were unanimous that because of time factor, a local firm should be given the chance to do the job.
Third Alliance Party candidate Ekuru Aukot presented a detailed memorandum asking the IEBC to allow for the single sourcing of a local firm to do the job.
However, in his memoranda, Aukot suggested an international logistics company to be involved from dispatch to polling stations.
Raila Odinga’s team, led by Senior Counsel James Orengo supported the idea, with Abduba Dida weighing in on the same.
Jubilee representatives said they were not concerned on who will get the deal, while the rest did not oppose the suggestion.
The meeting was deemed necessary after the High Court cancelled the printing of the presidential ballots by a Dubai based company.
“Our money is printed here in Kenya. And we have had no issue with it being a legal tender. And three weeks is adequate time, and it should not be an excuse at all that we don’t have time,” said Orengo.
The ballot issue has been one of the latest debates in the run up to elections, with 27 days to go to the elections
