Three presidential candidates put the August 8 poll at risk by failure to claim the state security details stating other commitments.
According to Article 138(8)(b) of the Constitution: "A presidential election shall be cancelled and a fresh election held if a candidate for the election as President or Deputy President dies on or before the scheduled election date."
Among the three candidates, one candidate said he has divine protection and thus does not need the security detail assigned by the police while the other two, sources say that they keep postponing the meeting due to prior commitments.
Eight candidates are in the race for presidency come August 8: Uhuru Kenyatta of Jubilee Party, Orange Democratic Movement's Raila Odinga, Cyrus Jirongo of United Democratic Party, Ekuru Aukot of Thirdway Alliance, Abduba Dida of the Alliance for Real Change and independent candidates Joseph Nyagah, Michael Wainaina and Japheth Kavinga.
Police now want the candidates, who have been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to take up the security offer so as not to put the entire electoral process at risk.
