The highly anticipated presidential debate has been left in disarray after three presidential candidates threatened to pull out just hours after President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga boycotted the event.

Independent candidates Japheth Kaluyu, Michael Wainaina and Thirdway Alliance flag bearer Ekuru Aukot said the process set to kick off this Monday discriminatory.

“We cannot take part in a debate where we have been divided into two groups or rather two tiers,” said Ekuru on Tuesday.

“We made a formal protest through writing and hope they will respond on time so that all Presidential candidates feature in every debate,” Wainaina said.

The first presidential debate was slated for July 10.

It was to be followed by the running mates' debate later on July 17.

The final presidential debate was scheduled for July 24.

All debates are to be held at Catholic University of Eastern Africa from 7.30pm and aired by all the participating media houses.
