[Photo: the-star.co.ke]The fact that a lone gunman was able to penetrate the compound of the highly guarded home of Deputy President William Ruto at Sugoi and keep a contingent of various security agencies busy for 18 hours, is an indication of serious security lapses.Security analyst Simiyu Werunga says the security forces that guard the presidency, which includes the DP, have serious and worrying inefficiencies."The same people that guard the President are the same as those in charge of his deputy. The company is the same, the training is the same. The fact that this could happen to the presidency points a very serious and worrying security lapse on the side of our security forces," Werunga told NTV on Sunday evening. He blamed the commanders in charge of Ruto's security for laxity saying that they didn't even know the number of 'officers and weapons' at his rural home.Werunga noted that the 18 hours operation was also executed shoddily, the main reason why it took the officers 'so long to neutralize a single gunman'.Kenyans, especially on social media, have gone hay-way since Saturday when the event was reported with various conspiracy theories of what could really have been happening at the DP's rural home. Some say the whole thing was stage managed while others saw it as one of the many alleged Jubilee plans to rig August polls.
