The official opening of Garissa County Assembly that was scheduled for this afternoon has been pushed to a later date.
This follows a meeting of the MCAs and other county leaders with president Uhuru Kenyatta at state house Nairobi.
Assembly clerk Mohamud Santur the membrs were invited fot a meeting at State House on Tuesday night hours before they were to gazette the official opening on Wednesday.
Santur said the opening of the assembly has been pushed to Tuesday next week.
Governor Ali Korane said he was prepared to open the House but the State House meeting forced the postponement.
“The MCAs and other county leaders are in Nairobi to meet the president ahead of the October 17 repeat presidential election. The assembly will not be opened as scheduled,” Korane said.
Jubilee won most of the seats in the county.
35 out of the 49 MCAs are from Jubilee and its affiliate parties.
County senator Yussuf Haji and Garissa township MP Aden Duale won their seats on a Jubilee party ticket.
