President Uhuru Kenyatta’s sister, Kristina Pratt has donated equipment worth half a million shillings to Nyabururu Girls’ School in Kisii County.
Speaking during the institution’s celebrations to mark 50 years of existence on Friday, Pratt said the equipment donated on behalf of the Education, Science and Technology ministry had 25 pieces of computers for the laboratory.
The school’s principal, Emeldah Simon noted that the ministry had also funded the construction of an administration block, library and computer laboratory to the tune of Sh31 million.
Simon said the school still lacked some facilities for the school to sustain its improved performance in national examinations.
Pratt urged Kisii County Governor, James Ongwae and Rural Electricity Board to supply electricity to schools which are not connected to the national grid.
She pledged to promote the education of the girl child in the region and conveyed President Kenyatta’s assurances that he was committed to improving the lives of the residents.
Ongwae said he would cooperate with the national government to uplift education standards in the area.
The governor pointed out he had given priority to the woman including employment in the county government.
Commission on Implementation of the Constitution (CIC) chairman, Charles Nyachae commended the governor for organising the recent County Education Conference.
Nyachae said the conference would generate debate on how to fix current poor academic performance in schools which used to excel.
Area MP, Richard Onyonka, who was accompanied by his Nyaribari Chache counterpart, Richard Tong’i said the local CDF has allocated Sh2 million towards the purchase of a standby generator at the school.
Nyabururu girls’ national school was founded by the Roman Catholic Church missionaries in 1964.
