Mulyungi argues that Chebukati has no business remaining in office following the resignation of three commissioners on Monday.

Speaking to journalists at the Parliament building's in Nairobi on Wednesday,  Mulyungi said that Chebukati lacks legal mandate to continue executing the commission affairs.

“Wafula Chebukati should follow suit and quit office because he has no legal mandate to transact the commission business after the resignation of three commissioners,” he said.

Mulyungi also said that the resignation of three commissioner's proves the commission’s inefficiency in handling last year’s presidential election.

He said that the issues opposition leaders were raising prior and after last year’s polls have now been confirmed.

The MP now wants the government to start the process of filling in new commissioners and recruitment of new EIBC boss.

He said that the country cannot have credible election if the current IBEC is still in office.

On Monday, IEBC vice chairperson Connie  Nkatha Maina, commissioner's Paul Kurgat, and Margaret Mwachanya resigned.

The three accused Chebukati of failing to provide right leadership at the commission.

Their resignation came days after Chebukati send CEO Ezra Chiloba on compulsory leave over tender-related issues.
