Pressure is mounting on embattled Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho to step aside over allegations that he forged his academic certificates to gain entry into University.The Mombasa governor is being probed by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) over allegations that he forged his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).On Saturday Mining Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu and Kilifi North MP Gideon Munga’ro asked Joho to step aside over the calims to pave way for investigations.Speaking in Malindi, Munga’ro said Joho has to step aside to allow smooth investigation into the forgery allegations facing him.The Kilifi North MP claimed Governor Joho might interfere with the ongoing probe if he continues to remain in office.“Joho should step down to allow detectives probing him over forged academic certificates do their work without interruptions,” he said as quoted by The Star.The ODM rebel MP said the allegations facing Joho are serious, adding that he must take responsibility and resign as Mombasa governor.The Kilifi North MP rubbished claims that Joho is being intimated by the Jubilee administration saying the governor has to face the law if found guilty.“Joho should stop complaining and allow detectives do their work, if he is innocent he will be free but if he is found culpable the law will take its course,” said Kazungu.CS Kazungu hit out at Joho accusing the Mombasa governor of spending much time critiquing the national government at the expense of delivering services to locals.On Thursday last week, Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar also asked Joho to step aside over the forgery allegations.Omar claimed that Joho might tamper with the ongoing investigation.Apart from his academic certificates, Joho is also being investigated by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over tax related offenses.The Mombasa governor has since defended his academic certificates saying they are authentic.
