A group of Jubilee Party leaders drawn from the Coast region has asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to declare President Uhuru Kenyatta the validly elected winner of the just concluded presidential repeat polls.Led by Tourism CS Najib Balala and former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar, the leaders argued that postponed polls in some parts of the country including Nyanza region will not make any difference in the final results.Speaking to the press on Saturday, Balala noted that IEBC should end the anxiety in the country by declaring President Kenyatta winner of the polls.“Kenyans need to move on and focus on social economic development,” said Balala. On his part, Omar who recently decamped from Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper Party to Jubilee said it was not mandatory for Uhuru to garner the same number of votes he garnered during the August polls in the fresh elections.“If IEBC is not able to hold an election in the four counties it should be remembered that it is because of insecurity. Even the court should take judicial notice of that fact,” said Omar.

Their sentiments were echoed by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and former Kilifi North MP Gideon Mung'aro.

“Even in the August 8 polls, voter turnout at the Coast was about 55 percent. Let the IEBC do the needful and declare President Uhuru the winner,” said Mung’aro.
