The chief said that some people have been pretending to be blind, crippled or even having some mysterious sicknesses with the intention of making money.

Some of these people, he said, are mostly left on the streets of Thika town by their friends and relatives where they beg for money the whole day before they retire to their homes in the evening.

Speaking in Kiandutu during a community policing meeting, Waiguru said that he will launch a crackdown on the ‘pretending conmen’ with a view to prosecuting those they arrest.

He further urged the public to give tip-offs to the police and the Nyumba Kumi officials who will help him tame the upcoming vice.

“We are going to deal with these people as they end up conning innocent residents. I sound a warning to anyone with such a character to seize as we will prosecute anyone caught,” cautioned the chief.

Waiguru urged the residents to unite in this festive season and fight crime in the area through community policing and Nyumba Kumi.

“We need to unite through these initiatives and fight out the criminals in this area. These are the people that should be ousted from this area because we need peace in our celebrations,” he added.

Waiguru called on parents to be vigilant on their children and try to stop their malicious mischief this festive season.
