The government is set to commence the delivery of laptops to primary schools in September.
ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru said the government is going to distribute the tablets to kick-start the Digital Literacy Programme (DLP) that the government had promised in 2013.
Speaking in Mawego in Rachuonyo North sub-county on Friday, Mucheru said the government was set to improve the quality of education in the country by introducing laptops in schools.
"The government's efforts in making the country digitalised are underway and the steps being taken towards that initiative are great ones," Mucheru said.
He was addressing residents during the tenth Mango Tree anniversary.
Mango Tree is an NGO tasked with the welfare of orphans in the area.
Other leaders in attendance were ICT Principal Secretary Sammy Itemere and Rachuonyo North sub-county deputy county commissioner Odilliah Ndeti.
In the pilot testing of the DLP materials, a total of 150 tablets had been distributed to schools countrywide to evaluate the rate at which the materials will be useful to the standard one pupils.
However, Mucheru was keen to warn people that the digital materials were not to be used in spreading hate speech and thereby undermining unity and development.
He also urged the residents to work against exam cheating saying he was in talks with the Cabinet Secretary of Education, Dr Fred Matiang'i to curb the problem.
