The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has directed principals of post primary institutions and school heads to supervise teachers during the repeat election period.
According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, the move will ensure learning is not disrupted.
In a circular released Tuesday, TSC chief executive Nancy Macharia called on institutional administrators and teachers who intend to serve as election officials under the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), to ensure they obtain prior written permission.
“The repeat presidential election may require the participation of institutional administrators and teachers to serve as election officials under the IEBC. Accordingly, the commission calls on all teachers selected by the IEBC to officiate in conducting the poll to obtain prior written permission,” said Macharia.
Macharia called on all teachers officiating the elections are reminded of their public officer status and need to uphold the law and principles of responsible citizenship as amplified in the Constitution and other laws.
Macharia said teachers should be non-partisan and are further required to shun any acts that could lead to cases of real or perceived conflict of interest in the performance of their work.
