Naivasha Maximum Prison Social Welfare Officer Moses Kodek has called on well-wishers to help them equip their barber shop.
Kodek said that they had an urgent need to get methylated spirit to use at the shop since they shave at least 1,000 inmates daily to ensure that “they remained neat”.
“We need at least the five litres which would last us for six months,” he added.
According to Kodek, majority of the inmates were trained as barbers as they needed to help equip them with skills once they are released.
“We would want them to understand the full process of shaving people so that once they are out, they can be able to start their own small businesses,” he added.
Kodek added that they also needed more having machines due to the high number of inmates shaved adding that the institution has an estimated 3,200 persons.
He maintained that the inmates observed high levels of hygiene and hence the lack of infectious diseases while shaving.
“It is the only way we can ensure that they do not get ill,” he added.
He also emphasised the desire by inmates to join humanitarian organisations since many were ready to offer help in times of crisis.
