Lugusa said they are currently investigating the circumstances under which the officer was forced to shoot in a crowded area.

The Form Two student identified as Quiter Amondi from Ulanda Girls High School was accidentally shot in the eye by the prison warder who was pursuing a fleeing inmate.

The incident sparked a demonstration led by Migori residents against the officer's act.

The student was in Migori Boys High School participating in the Lake Region Kenya, Term Two Secondary School (LRKSS) games.

The police boss said charges will be preferred against the officer following his action during the Friday incident.

“Charges will be preferred against the officer following his actions on that particular day that led to the injury to an innocent student,” Lugusa said on Saturday.

Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga also criticised the officers for beating up and injuring women during the anti-IEBC demos by Cord.

Speaking during the International Day of Action for Women’s Health on the same day at Ojolla, she said it was wrong for the officers to beat up women leaders and other women going about their business at the fish market in the county.
