Kiambu County has warned privately-owned clinics that they risk closure unless they abide by the health regulations.

The County Public Officer, Romano Kinyua has said that the state of some private clinics is wanting.

“Most private health facilities in Kiambu County are below the required health standards,” said Kinyua.

He said that such clinics are ill-equipped and provide low quality services.

“Some of these clinics are not licensed to offer health services and have no necessary facilities to tackle communicable and non-communicable diseases, while others have no adequate ventilations”, said the health officer.

He revealed that the county government has unveiled a raft of measures aimed at boosting health services to the residents

“To boost provision of health, the county government as initiated programs to help residents increases access to basic medical services”, said Kinyua.

He also said that the county government has earmarked funds to purchase medical equipment and hire workers to improve service delivery.

He however admitted that the county is in acute of health workers.

“We have shortage of pharmacists and nurses in the county and we intend to hire more of clinical officers to improve service delivery,” said Kinyua.

Dr Kinyua was today speaking at Githunguri Constituency after inspecting private clinics, where he urged private practitioners to boost health services in line with regulation of Ministry of health.
