A real estate investor near Nyamira town is counting loses after suspected thieves invaded his construction site and stole valuables worth thousands of shillings.
Amos Orina, a private investor near Nyabite area of Nyamira town, learned about the incident on Thursday when inspecting his construction materials ready for work.
Orina said he lost over 25 bags of cement, concrete and construction irons that were set to elevate a building in the area.
“They managed to carry with them about 25 bags of cement that were in my temporary store, concrete and other construction materials worth thousands of shillings. It is an enormous loss for me,” he said.
“I didn’t expect this because it has never happened to me before despite being in real estate industry for many years,” he added.
He said he could not believe since he had employed a night guard who, ironically never noticed the thieves when they were making their way in.
“It is an irony because I had paid someone to guard this place. To my surprise, he also seems clueless on what had happened on the material day,” lamented Orina.
The temporary night guard, Zachary Onchong’a, was arrested by Nyamira police officers to be questioned about the incident, said Nyamira OCS William Odongo.
“The matter has been reported to authorities and we have arrested the watchman for questioning. We are on the process of investigating the incident,” he said.
