Temudo School Director Carmelian Tado said the new directive will bar public schools from poaching bright students from private schools.

speaking to parents and journalists at the school, Tado said private schools mould students, only to be poached by public schools when they are about to sit for their exams.

“We as private schools have really suffered in the hands of public schools as they continue to poach our good students as they leave class seven to join class eight,” said Tado.

The directive will take effect starting next year, with the government pledging to offer free registration for students sitting for KCPE and KCSE exams.

She noted that most schools were practicing thinning of students where weak students are not allowed to sit for the examinations for fear of lowering the school’s mean grade.

“Even some of the private schools used to send away weak students to be registered in public schools so that they can keep their record intact,” she said.

She noted that at Temudo, teachers and students have resolved to work hard, and no student has been discriminated due to their ability.
