Private security firms in Eldoret town have been warned against paying their employees peanuts.
Uasin Gishu Central Organization Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) chairman Peter Odima also warned the firms against blocking their employees from joining workers' unions.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Odima said it was unconstitutional for the security firms to deny their employee chance to be members of organizations that champion for their rights.
"The constitution is very clear that every worker has a right to association and if he/she wants to be a member of any trade Union then an employer has no right to block that," noted Odima.
"We are also putting on notice those firms that pay security guards sh2,000 or sh3,000. We're past those errors and as a Union we shall fight those firms until they increase the salaries," he added.
The COTU Uasin Gishu chairman further issued a warning to trade union officials who do not fight for their workers rights."If you're a Union official and you don't fight for you people, be ready to be voted out when elections come," he said.
