Speaking to journalists in Nakuru, some private teachers appealed to the government to sack all the teachers and offer them the jobs.

The teachers argued that the striking teachers wanted better terms, yet they are paid poorly by private institutions, further adding that they should stop intimidating the government.

“They are complaining of poor pay yet the best we are paid is at least Sh7000 per month. They do not know what surviving really is. Some of us finish our salary in debts,” said John Karanja, a teacher in a private institution.

Karanja went on to note that working conditions for public teachers were better compared to them.

Jackline Anyango, another teacher pointed out that the striking teachers were being greedy and inconsiderate.

“Compared to private teachers, they live a life of luxury. We are constantly being harassed by our employer. We are also subjected to abuse and intimidation. Yet we stay here all the time and we endure the hardships,” she added.

“They do not know how to appreciate the job that they have. There are so many jobless teachers who are very uncomfortable with what they do,” she added.

The nationwide teachers’ strike has entered its fourth day, with the government refusing to agree to the demands by the teachers.
