Wetangula, who was speaking at PEFA church in Migori town during a fundraiser, said the government must release the burden of sugarcane farmers just as they did to other industries, which they previously privatised.

The senate minority leader insisted that if sugar industries must be privatized, then the locals must be given the first priority, especially county governments.

The senator told the residents to stand firm on the company matters because when privatised to willing buyers, only the rich shall obtain it, aiming also to acquire its nuclear.

He also said that the proposed Security Bill is meant to take the country back to the dark days of the KANU regime, arguing that when passed, the law will oppress innocent citizens since the suspects will not receive fair trial as per the constitution.

His sentiments were shared by Migori County Governor Zachariah Obado and Awendo MP Jared Kopiyo.

Wetangula said Kenyans are having an unwilling government to stick to the law, reason for the continuous corruption and nepotism in appointments to top jobs in the country.

He asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop using strain terms meant to degrade opposition leaders, insisting that they are the alternative government and must be effectively respected.

Other leaders present included area MP Joseph Obiero, Senator Wilfred Machage and his nominated counterpart Daisy Nyongesa, among others.
