Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya has received a boost after two Members of Parliament abandoned his opponent to support him retain his seat in the next general election.

Benjamin Washiali (Mumias East), Emmanuel Wangwe (Navakholo) and Bernard Shinali (Ikolomani) affirmed to rally residents of Kakamega County to come out in large numbers to vote for Oparanya.

The decision by the three has complicated the county's political arithmetic especially for Jubilee hopefuls including former Kakamega county executive member Suleiman Sumba and former Health Cabinet Minister Amukowa Anangwe as they look forward to unseat the incumbent in the next general polls.

Speaking in his constituency, Mr Washiali said he has nothing against Mr Oparanya and he is ready to work with him if elected as the governor in the upcoming general elections.

"I have no problem working with Oparanya. A second term will be easy for him to win even though, as Jubilee, we will have our candidate," said Washiali as quoted by the Standard.

His sentiments were supported by Mr Wangwe who said Oparanya has all it takes to retain the seat in the next polls and he will support his bid regardless of his party affiliation.

"Oparanya has done a lot in terms of development projects. He deserves a re-election. I will work and walk with him. I ask my people to vote for him in 2017," he said.
