The government has been urged to probe all priests in the country to ensure they have a clean record.
Speaking at a youth forum in Nakuru West, area youths claimed that priests should hold certificates of good conduct that will be renewed yearly to ensure they did not have criminal cases pending against them.
The irate youths lamented over the increased cases of sodomy and defilement that priest have been committing, citing that the men of the cloth felt safe as they were answerable to no one.
“Our children are no longer safe as they are continually raped and sodomized by priests in various parts of the county. This has to stop. The government should look into punishing the perpetrators of the vices,” said Jonah Mutua, one of the youths, adding that the priests felt they were above the law
Peter Muchangi noted that the priests should also be investigated for corruption deals.
“We have seen cases in Nakuru, especially in Shabab, where land has been grabbed and sold by priests and churches, when they should be at the forefront of fighting corruption. They should also be vetted and if unclean, removed from the seat,” he added
Margaret Wanjiku pointed out that priests caught in sex scandals should be excommunicated
“If we have enough evidence, they should not continue serving people,” she added.
