The land is believed to have been grabbed by a private developer who took advantage of the little activity on the land.

Speaking to the press in Eldoret on Thursday, the Kenya Police Service planning director Silas Opiyo said that the police bought the land in 1975 but the land remained unused, which attracted  private developers.

Opiyo added that residents complained to  government officials, demanding that the land be reclaimed by the police.

“We have been informed about the land but at the moment we do not have the actual facts about it,” Opiyo said.

Opiyo added that he was aware that some of the residents had already written to the National Lands Commission and also the Lands cabinet secretary Charity Ngilu over the issue.

The deed plan for the land is recorded as 106639. Opiyo denied claims by some of the residents in the area that he and former Inspector-General David Kimaiyo that they have been earlier handed the documents on the land in a meeting which was held in eldoret.

“I blame the confusion between Ngilu and NLC in delaying in ascertaining the actual owners of the land,” Opiyo said.
