The Kenya National Human Rights Commission has launched a probe into alleged police brutality in Mumias on Thursday.
The commission said the probe is meant to ensure that officers involved in the operation take individual responsibility if found guilty of breaking the law.
“The commission has learned that women and children are the greatest victims of the security agencies uncalled for action with many innocent residents suffering blunt object injuries,” said Morara during a press conference at the KNHCR offices in CVS Plaza, Nairobi.
He said the commission has also received reports of rape threats issued by the security officers apparently to compel the residents of Mumias and its environs to produce the lost armaments.
He added that the affected should report to the commission through a short code message to 22359 or call 0724256448/0733780000.
“The commission wishes to retaliate that the right to security of the person as protected by Article 29 of the Constitution of Kenya must be upheld at all times by the security officers in the course of their work,” he said.
