Human rights activists in Kisumu have challenged the police in Kisumu to reveal the whereabouts of two people who disappeared while in police custody over two months ago.
Led by Kisumu City Residents Voice Secretary Chris Owala, they claimed that the two people, Michael Otieno and Felix Odhiambo disappeared from police custody in Kondele where they were booked over two months ago and have not been seen since then.
He challenged the police to come out clean on the whereabouts of the two.
“We are worried because we see the country being dragged back into the dark gone era, where people just disappeared after they resented government activities,” he said
“People are getting abducted during the day and only their bodies found later,” he added.
“If defending human rights is a crime then we are worried.”
They accused the police of colluding with criminals.
The activists were addressing the media on Saturday after Kisumu City Residents Voice Audi Ogada recorded a statement with the police that his life was in danger over his criticism of police activities in the lakeside region.
“I have also made several petitions over mysterious disappearances of suspects from police custody and against the recent use of brutal force by officers against anti-IEBC protestors. I know police are not happy and as an activist I am not treating these threats lightly,” he said.
