Uasin Gishu Senator Prof. Margret Kamar has expressed her support for the change of the country's education system from the current 8-4-4 to the proposed 2-6-6-3.Prof. Kamar, a former Higher Education Minister during the grand coalition government says the new education curriculum is aimed at improving the country's education system that has been putting more emphasis on examinations.Speaking in Eldoret town on Wednesday, the Jubilee allied Senator further said the change of education system was a normal practice in the sector."Change of education curriculum is normal and always done after about 10 years. This enables for the change of teaching approach and gives room for the adding or removing of some things to the teaching system," Prof. Kamar told the press at the Moi University School of Law in Annex."One of the key issues in the new system is reducing the burden of too much reading and replacing that with a lot of practical learning which is good for our youths," she added.The Uasin Gishu Senator further noted that "once a teacher is ready then the new system is also ready to be implemented."Education Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang'i has already said that the rollout of the new education curriculum is on course with the second phase piloting for the system set to be implemented in 33,000 schools this year.The CS who spoke during a crisis meeting with the National Steering Committee said implementation of the new system will be gradual with the phasing out of the 8-4-4 system expected to be complete by 2027.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Uasin Gishu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
