A program aimed at assisting form four leavers and other youth embrace self-employment has been launched in Ganze constituency, Kilifi County.
The program dubbed ‘Ujuzi Mtaani Initiative’ will equip youth in the constituency with technological skills so that they can create self-employment as well as employ their peers in the constituency.
Speaking after launching the program at Vitengeni Primary school within Sokoke ward in his constituency, the area Member of Parliament Teddy Mwambire said that the program will enable youth start their own businesses and eventually register companies so that they can venture into the cottage business.
He said that such opportunities should be enhanced and youth encouraged embracing them in a bid to fight poverty within their communities.
Mwambire said that the program, however, does not deter youth from pursuing high education in universities but it will enable them to beat economic challenges as they continue with higher education.
“In its first phase we have already given the opportunity to 20 form four leavers who have shown interest in pursuing the cottage businesses in Kilifi County,” he said.
The cottage investment which youth can pursue has various angles including setting up an advance booking center as well as creating more partnership in the hospitality industry.
Mwambire said that he was looking for other various opportunities which youth would embrace and put more interests in them.
“Our youth forums conducted in Ganze Constituency have enabled us to realize what youth want to pursue so that we focus more on their interests in launched various projects and programs relevant for them,” said the youthful Ganze Legislature.
He said that the ‘Ujuzi Mtaani initiative’ was a supplement to other regular courses which will also be fully sponsored to equip youth with skills and expand their minds so that they venture into new opportunities and improve on their living standards.
He said the program was a New year gift to the 20 youth in Sokoke ward but revealed that it will be expanded to cover the whole Ganze constituency throughout 2018.
