A Community Based Organisation (CBO) in Seme Sub County has initiated several development projects to locals in the area to cushion them from poverty.
Pamoja CBO is running many sustainable livelihood projects in Seme to help reduce the poverty levels in most households.
Director of Pamoja CBO Patrick Mbullo said in an interview in Kisumu that the poverty level in Seme is at 46 per cent adding that most families struggle to meet basic needs.
He said lack of constant rainfall has led to persistent crop failure in most farms hence they have now improvised methods of ensuring farmers reap from farming activities.
Mbullo said many farmers have been enrolled in the rabbit keeping project which has been able to make most families earn a decent living.
He said they have also started dairy goat farming projects where over 100 goats has been given to various farmers groups.
Mbullo says they have distributed 36 foot pumps to 36 farmers which have helped them in irrigating their lands where they farm vegetables for domestic and commercial purposes.
He said they have also introduced banana farming and he is optimistic that all these projects will be able to improve the lives of most families in Seme Sub County.
Mbullo called upon the county government of Kisumu and other partners to join hands with the CBO and help fight poverty.
