The Mombasa senatorial race has became tougher after prominent lawyer Mohammed Faki, declared interest in the seat.
Faki is set to battle it out with other aspirants after the incumbent, Senator Hassan Omar, opted to lock horns with Governor Hassan Joho in the gubernatorial bid.
The renowned lawyer has declared that he has what it takes to be the next Mombasa senator.
“I have the obligation to serve Mombasa County residents after the expiry of the term of the eleventh parliament,” Said Faki while addressing journalists in his office.
Faki said neither businessman Hisham Mwidau nor veteran politician Ramadhan Kajembe will stand between him and the senatorial seat in 2017.
Tendai Lewa, the Mombasa Education CS, has also declared interest in the seat.
As one of the newest entrants in this race, Faki believes that Mombasa residents deserve a better leader than Senator Omar.
“I’m interested to vie for the senatorial seat due to the lack of leadership by the incumbent,” he added.
The lawyer said that he is ready to contest for a nomination ticket with other Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) aspirants who want to take over Omar in 2017.
He said he opted to seek for an ODM ticket because it is considered the most popular in the region.
