The United Democratic Party (UDP) leader Cyrus Jirongo has confirmed that he is holding talks with Cord leader Raila Amolo Odinga as he weighs on whether he can join the National Super Alliance (NASA) ahead of the August General polls, reports Star.
If the deal goes through, Jirongo is expected to strengthen the alliance’s grip in the Western region of this country as the opposition seeks to dethrone Jubilee from power.
Jirongo has said that he has spoken to the former prime minister, adding that he is only waiting for a response.
“I have given Raila my offer if I’m to join NASA. I’m waiting for him to get back to me. If he doesn’t return with convincing answers, I will mobilize resources and run for the presidency,” he told the local daily on Phone.
The legislator also took a swipe at his opponents for claiming that he is supporting the Jubilee government for raising issues affecting the common mwananchi.
“Stereotyping by our leaders is what is annoying me. Those saying that I’m a Jubilee clone for Western just because I’m raising serious issues affecting the community must be stupid and insane. Only a mad man can go to Jubilee for support,” he added. The talks started after Vihiga Senator George Khaniri called upon him to join the alliance.
