A presidential directive says that 30% of national and county governments' procurement goes to the youths and women.

Speaking to Makongeni youths at Engen Jua Kali site on Wednesday, Thika District Business Association (TDBA) Secretary General Sam Chege noted that many counties were not following the directive.

"It is the responsibility of the Parliament Joint Committee on Equal Opportunity to inquire and report on the procurement procedures at the county level because many counties are not allocating the 30 percent of their procurement to youth and women," said Chege.

He said that Thika youths in the informal jua kali sector could be given some of the tenders to supply the county government seeing that they had a variety of good products.

"These youths are doing a lot of good work to build Kiambu county economy and it is, therefore, good for the county government to promote them through procuring some of the products that they buy elsewhere at exaggerated prices," said Chege.
