Proper planning is required to spur development of Mlolongo Town of Machakos County that has remained stagnant in terms of development for decades.

These were remarks made by James Kamau, a resident and prominent business man in Mlolongo town, who attributed the current town's development status to poor planning.

Kamau said that the town could have gone far in terms as development just like other towns within the country, which have gone miles in terms of infrastructural economical and general development promoted by proper planning.

He argued that there ought not to have been residents within commercial buildings as is the case in Mlolongo town due to insecurity posed and poor sanitation.

“I do not think it is wise and safe to have residential houses within same buildings or flats where commercial operations take place given that businesses attract people off all kinds, some of who could be good as others of ill motives,” said Kamau.

Kamau, who was addressing journalists at Mlololongo town on Friday, said having residents in commercial buildings had also led to serious congestion and poor sanitation due to traditional sewerages and poor drainage systems.

He called on the County Government of Machakos to come up with a modern state of art development strategic plan that could allow for and sustain the fast growing population of the town.

The businessman noted that the plan would also relieve residents and investors in the area from loses the frequently in cured due to demolitions by county and national governments any time they wanted to implement a project such as roads sighting the Dual Carriage Highway along Mombasa Road as an example.

He called on residents of the town to also be wary of plots on which such development were likely to be implemented by the governments and move in advance prior to projects implementation to avoid inconveniences.
