Property of unknown value was on Thursday morning destroyed at Nyacaba area in Juja after the area residents took to the streets for the second time alleging there is a plan to grab a public piece of land.

Police spent the better part of the morning dispersing irate residents who blocked the road leading to the Juja quarry and causing a traffic jam along the Thika superhighway as truck drivers got stranded.

The residents say that the area MP Francis Munyua is forcefully constructing a school on the piece of land without their consent. They said they gave out the land in good faith and that they must be consulted on how the land will be used.

They have now threatened to bring down the secondary school construction. The further said that the 32-acre land parcel was set aside after an agreement between every land owner in the area to ensure they is a separation between the government and public land.

Juja and Ruiru anti-riot police officers arrived at the area at dawn after they were informed of the protests that was headed towards the superhighway.

Thika Deputy County Commissioner Jeremiah Gicheru, up until noon was expected at the scene as the residents were yet to calm down.
