At least 10 families are counting loses after their houses were razed down by fire on Friday night in Kangemi.
The cause of the fire which started at 8pm opposite Shell Mountain View Estate is still unknown.
Efforts by fire engines from the Nairobi County government to put out the fire were fruitless as the fire engines delayed to arrive at the incident scene.
Residents claimed the fire could have been started by a candle that was left lighting in one of the wooden houses when the owner left for the market.
"She was in the house and the candle was on because she does not have electricity," a resident Hilda Alusiola told this writer of the owner of the house where the candle was lit.
"We only saw huge flames. It was hard to contain the fire because the houses had wooden walls."
It took close to 30 minutes for fire engines from the county government too arrive at the fire scene.
The incident happened about a month after a similar occurred at Gichagi near Kangemi High School where three houses were burnt before the fire was put out.
Westlands MP Timothy Wanyonyi, then told residents to ensure they adhere to safety measures for the sake of their own lives.
A women group organization charlady in Kangemi, Grace Mukami promised to intervene and help the women who were affected.
