Property of unknown value was lost when fire razed down 10 residential houses at Mlolongo Zone E village in Athi River District on Tuesday leaving more than 35 people homeless.

The victims lost household items ranging from food stuffs, cooking ware, clothing, bedding, utensils, and school uniforms for children, books and money.

Addressing the press at the scene, one victim, Catherine Kanini, 30, said she lost all her belonging and savings in the fire which broke out at about 1pm.

The mother of four and charcoal dealer said she lost everything since the fire started when she was away in her kiosk at the Mlolongo shopping centre.

Kanini said she also lost Sh 3,000 in cash while the husband Martin Ndambuki who remained only with the clothes he was wearing then lost Sh 7,000 in the fire.

The fire was put out by brigade from Mavoko Sub County who responded to phone call from a resident in five minutes time.

Mlolongo location Chief David Kilonzo lauded the fire brigade for prompt response arguing the structures could have been completely burned down if the firemen delayed due to strong winds that made it spread faster.

He urged residents to be more careful to avoid more of such incidences in the region stating that members of the public should desist from engaging in jobs which are not theirs.
