The wave of secondary school unrest in Kenya has continued with Muhoho boy’s high school joining the tide on Wednesday morning where property worth millions was razed down.
According to the senior head teacher from the school Edwin Muraya, the fire started at 4:00am in one of the dormitories when the students had convened for morning activities.
It is alleged that the fire broke out in form one of the form four dormitories after which it extended to other dormitories.
The students were thereafter called for a brief meeting with the school head teacher Francis Muraya adjourning studies until a further date. The students were advised to go home immediately with Thika fire brigade hopelessly fighting the fire.
“Go home for now until you’re further directed via the media, letters and calls to resume for studies,” the head teacher told the students.
The fire was later put off after the area community intervened with buckets of water. Schools unrest in the country has continued with over 100 secondary schools being affected where property of unknown worth has been destroyed.
On Tuesday, Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi’ hauled school heads into the confusion accusing them of deteriorating proper structures of engagement with students.
