A Monday night fire guttered down a residential house at Ngwata Zone E village in Mlolongo division, Athi River sub county on Monday.
Stephen Kunga lost his property in the 8pm incident.
Mlolongo Assistant County Commissioner, Obed Mose, who spoke to this writer at the scene said the property that was destroyed by the fire is approximately Sh1.5 million.
Mose said some of the property that were lost in the fire included furniture, bedding, kitchenware, food, personal documents such as academic certificates, driving licenses and birth certificates.
He said it was suspected the fire that spread to the entire five roomed house started from the man's bedroom due to an electric fault before getting to other rooms.
Mose said the man had left his electronics on that morning as he went to work.
He said according to neighbours, lights in the victim's house were on a few minutes after electricity came back at 7.00 pm.
Mose said Mavoko sub county fire brigade responded to a phone call in time but found when the fire had consumed everything in the house.
He said the fire fighters however, managed to contain and put it out before spreading to the neighbouring houses.
Mose said though there were no injuries or casualties, the family had been rendered both homeless and poor given that the property it had saved for several years alongside households were burnt.
