Property worth Sh2.2 million was destroyed when fire gutted down a boys’ dormitory at St Angela preparatory school in Mosocho, on the outskirts of Kisii town. An adjacent computer college was also burnt in the Wednesday night fire and nobody was injured in the fire. The college director, Peter Nyambasora, said that 70 pupils lost all their belongings in the night fire. He also said that the fire broke out while all the students were still in class for their evening preps studies. Nyambasora said that it took the Kisii county fire brigade and the area residents more than four hours to put out the fire and thanked them for the help they gave. “I want to thank the county fire brigade for their quick response and the residents of Mosocho for showing up and helping us to put out the fire because the fire would have caused more damage if it is not their efforts,” he said. Nyambasora said the students will be sent home up to Monday as the investigations to determine the cause of the fire will be carried out in the institution. The director of the school said they suspect that the fire may have been caused by an electric fault.
