The fire, that its cause is yet to be established, started at around 8pm and spread fast through a workshop, keeping at bay those who arrived to salvage property.

Residents however hailed the Kisii County Government for their quick response, arriving at the scene of the incident shortly after they were alerted.

“The county government acted swiftly this time round compared to the past, only that the fire had spread very fast because of the furniture and wooded wall. However, they managed to contain and prevent it from spreading to other adjacent buildings,” noted Bonface Onkoba, a business vendor in the area.

However, other residents felt it was a case of arson, and urged the police to conduct investigations to apprehend whoever might have been involved.

“This cannot be a natural cause. There have been frequent wrangles between business investors on the same and therefore, those suspected should be investigated,” said another resident.
