Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth has expressed strong sentiments against the proposed manner of ranking schools, saying that the exercise had to involve a holistic approach rather than individual academic data.
Speaking at Joseph Kangethe Primary School in Kibra constituency on Friday, Mr Okoth said that the ranking should instead focus on rating schools per country and not on a national basis.
Okoth added that the ranking exercise should be based on many factors other than academics, suggesting that co-curricular activities had to be included in finding the total performance of a school.
Okoth also said that traits such as cleanliness in schools, best overall performance as well as most-improved statistics should be considered before coming up with the list of ranking.
Earlier on, the Parliament had passed a bill recommending the reintroduction of ranking in schools and it is awaiting consent by the president.
