Commercial sex workers in Kisii county are calling on the County and National governments to legalise the trade in the region.
They said if the trade will not be legalised then the County government to provide them alternative jobs.
Led by Lucy Obaigwa the African Sex Workers Alliance Secretary-General, Kisii chapter they said that life was unbearable due to the current economic conditions in the country.
"It is becoming so hard for us to operate in the town and we are forced to sneak and have sexual bouts with clients. If prostitution is legalised we shall be able to operate freely," said Obaigwa.
According to Obaigwa, they were ready to pay taxes which will benefit the county government.
They said that they were tired of being arrested day in, day out and wanted the freedom of operating freely.
"We are tired of the arrests conducted by county and national officials who are our customers. We are ready to pay taxes and work in a friendly environment," she said.
Ms Obaigwa said that by legalising the trade, young girls would get jobs.
Over the weekend over 30 prostitutes were arrested in the town.
