Mombasa residents have been challenged to closely monitor their children in a bid to prevent them from abusing drugs.Reachout Centre Trust programs officer Lugard Abillah said reports from the security department in the county have revealed that school going children were peddling and abusing drugs.Speaking during an interview with Radio Kaya on Tuesday, Abillah said such reports should not be taken lightly, and urged parents and teachers to take steps in curbing the vice.“Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa had earlier said that police have unraveled a syndicate that was selling sweets and other snacks coated with drugs in schools,” said Abillah.He said such reports should be treated seriously and urged parents to always monitor their kids and the activities they engage in.The program officer also noted it was important for parents to seek the required treatment for children who abuse drugs.He said the organisation has launched various awareness programs to deter children from abusing drugs.“The awareness campaign should be all inclusive, the problem is bigger than you can imagine,” he said.He appealed to parents to closely monitor their children and talk to them about the negative impact of drug abuse.
