Machakos County First Lady Lilian Nganga has asked the county assembly to pass and formulate laws that will empower and promote the rights of children.
Speaking at AIC Kangundo Children Home in Matungulu Sub County, Nganga said the rights of children must be defended.
She said that the welfare of children should be catered for especially access to health, education and other basic services.
“The county assembly must make laws and policies that will ensure children’s rights are protected,” she said.
She added that the constitution protects the rights of children under the Children Act and the same must be safeguarded by the county assembly.
Nganga urged the county government to start projects that will benefit children especially those at children homes.
She observed that many children are roaming the streets and end up at children’s homes.
“We must protect our children if we want them to have a bright and meaningful future,” she emphasised.
The First Lady pledged to start programmes that will ensure kids at children homes are taken care off.
