Kanu secretary general Nick Salat now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to rise to the occasion and protect the presidency.
Salat's call comes days after Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko declared himself ‘acting president’ during the burial of former Kathiani MP and Machakos governor hopeful Wavinya Ndeti's husband, Dolamu Oduwole, on Friday last week.
Salat who termed Sonko’s remarks an “abomination”, also noted that they amounted to the lack of respect for the Office of the President.
He said the Senator’s remarks should not be ignored, and urged other leaders to respect the presidency.
“The President’s seat is sacred and if what we are witnessing is anything to go by, then we are almost asking ourselves who is the President of this country?” Salat said as quoted by the Star.
“The other time it was a singer sitting on the President’s seat, which has never happened before,” he added.
He spoke at Koibeyon AGC in Bomet East on Sunday during a fundraiser that was also attended by Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto, Knut officials Wilson Sossion (secretary general), Mudzo Nzili (chairman), John Matiang’i (national treasurer) and Kuppet secretary general Akello Misori.
