Police officers attacked journalists at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Monday evening, injuring Citizen TV's Stephen Letoo as they covered a standoff between immigration officials and Miguna Miguna.
The self-proclaimed NRM general had been detained at the airport after failing to avail his passport to the immigration officers and was denied clearance unless he applies for a temporary visa which he declined.
Miguna had arrived from Canada following a court order, where he had been deported a month ago by the Kenyan government.
Letoo who was covering the live event, was clobbered by an officer, sustaining injuries on his right hand, after a contingent of uninformed officers came in, pushing and ordering journalists to leave.
The commotion saw Miguna whisked into an Emirates Airline ready to be deported to Canada, via Dubai but he protested and declined.
Miguna's lawyer, Siaya Senator James Orengo who was addressing the press after the incident, was also ordered out of the airport.
KTN's Sophia Wanuna alongside other reporters could be heard rebuking the police officers following the harassment.
"Why are you beating us?! We're just doing our job! Why are you beating us?" several reporters could be heard saying as they followed the uniformed officers.
Airport officials later issued Letoo with first aid and checked on his condition.
