Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has warned that the country will plug into chaos if opposition leaders continue with their protests to oust the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Wamatangi on Tuesday said that the protests by Cord leaders and supporters were creating political anxiety across the country.
The senator accused the opposition of misusing their right to demonstrate.
“The protests by cord over their quest to have IEBC commissioners sent home is dangerous to the country’s peace,” he said when he addressed locals at Kiambu town on Tuesday.
Wamatangi observed that political temperatures were steadily rising as a result of the protests.
The Kiambu lawmaker also accused the opposition of using the protests to be politically relevant.
“These people have sensed defeat in 2017 and are looking for persons to blame,” he added.
The Kiambu senate lawmaker asked the opposition to give dialogue a chance saying that it will save the country from chaos. “Cord leaders should come to the dialogue table without conditions,” he said.
The senator said that the Jubilee government will not be intimidated by opposition stunts. He condemned the police who used excessive force in quelling the Monday protests.
“I think the police were not justified to use excessive force on the protesters,” he said.
There has been condemnation of the police who allegedly used excessive force on Cord leaders and protesters on Monday.
Video clips and pictures captured during the Monday protests show some police officers brutally beating up protestors.
Human rights activists have condemned the police brutality and called for action.
On Tuesday, Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet said investigations have been launched into the brutal claims against the police during the Monday protests.
